Robert Stern, a US architect and the founder of the legendary architect firm, Robert A. M. Stern Architects, took part in the official ceremony of laying down the memorial capsule in the basement of the new residential property, Barkli Residence.
Despite the firm’s wide geography of operation and international recognition, Barkli Residence is the first project of Robert Stern’s firm in Moscow.
According to Robert Stern, the construction of Barkli Residence will revive the architectural dialog between Moscow and New York that started in the 1940s and 1950s. This project will open a new discussion in the architectural history of Moscow, noted the architect. He also expressed his hope that Barkli Residence would become the gold standard for apartments in Moscow.
The ceremony was also attended by Leonid Kazinets, Chairman of the Board of Directors in Barkli Corporation, the project’s developer. “We have transplanted a sample of the formidable American architectural style to our beloved Moscow,” said Leonid Kazinets, who baptized Barkli Residence a “bridge”, not only between Moscow and New York.
“The project has already succeeded in many respects, in terms of design, drawings,” said Barkli’s Chairman of the Board of Directors, “It only has to be built.” “This is a unique project that on completion can become a symbol and a new jewel in Moscow’s crown,” noted the ceremony’s participants, “It will become an example of modern urban development.”
Father Superior Nikon from Donskoy Monastery who attended the ceremony and blessed the memorial capsule said that Donskoy Monastery “is happy to have such a neighbor”.
